My Book Cover

I admit it. If name recognition isn’t a factor—Kevin Hearne, Patrick Rothfuss, Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs—then a great book cover is what snags my interest.

The title clues me to its content. A solid color (no hairy chests and derring-do men please) with a simple image stops my eyes from roving.

Finding that image for my book was difficult. Like crazy, wild-woman-type nuts. I photo shopped. Took pics of my own. Even had my bemused daughter take a photo of my hand once. Didn’t work well. Not at all.

Then Heaven came down and Glory filled my soul.

I found the stop-me-in-my-tracks and slap-me-upside-the-head photo.

While cruising the blogosphere, I ran across The Book Cover on Jenn’s blog, Into the Wild Blue Yonder.

Her photos exude life and show a place from a dream world. She has the ability that I cannot imitate, that nebulous talent that *sees* what is unseen, an image that translates into a story.

Thank you, Jenn, for this photo and my book cover.

  1. That's effective! Awesome you found someone who was willing to let you use such a great photo.

    1. All credit goes to Jenn who graciously allowed me to use her photo. Her pic reminds me of the movie, The Village. Spooky.

  2. Book covers are so important. This one is awesome.

  3. It worked wonderfully! I agree, book covers are important and I also am a bit tired of those getting rolled out of hunky men and dorky women on the front cover.

  4. Wow! Thank you for the grand compliment. I love the font you chose and that is definetely a book I'd pick up in a bookstore. We've had so much rain and fog here on and off for the past month that I'm growing quite tired of it. Maybe it can stick around one more day if taking photos of it gets this kind of result. :)

  5. Okay, I can definitely say that this book cover does it's job. It's simplistic so there's not a lot of busy-ness to distract an interested reader. Plus, that scene is very spooky, begs for more checking out.

    Great job :-)

  6. Gorgeous cover! I'm the same way with imagining covers for my stories. Nothing ever seems perfect.

  7. i got the preview of that cover, love it. feels ominous.
but i still think of Adam Ant when I read the title =)

and i almost chose a silhouette of 2 cowboys!

  8. Beautiful photo! Perfect for a book cover. ;)
