Blogfest!
Tara Tyler and Heather M. Gardner are sponsoring The Thrill of It All blogfest today.
In line with their rules, I am posting an excerpt from my current wip, book two of The Magic Withheld:
Darcy
gasped. “You know,” she whispered. “How?”
“That
you’re a mage?”
She
nodded mutely.
“Easy,”
Bert said. “I can see the colors.”
“Colors?”
“Oh,
that’s right. You can’t see them can you. Well, let’s see.” He tipped his head
and looked at the swirls over her head with narrowed eyes. The tempo had slowed
into lazy arcs now. “You are proficient in Water. That’s the red. The blue is
Air. And that sparkly stuff looking like tinsel from an old-style Christmas
tree means you got a smidge of Spirit.”
“You’re
human.” Her eyes shifted and she lowered her voice. “You can’t see magic.”
“Funny
how that keeps popping up,” he said cheerfully.
This is its first outing. Like a baby in a carriage, it isn't exactly potty trained yet but so far the storyline is writing itself.
I bet that's only one of many exchanges like that in the story! I liked it.
ReplyDeleteThx Alex. Btw, did you know I simply worship your blog?
DeleteSo, this leaves me wondering why he can see magic, if he truly is human.
ReplyDelete*double arm pump*
DeleteBert kinda took over my second book when I realized his humanity was damaged.
Hey! Congrats on being a winner in the Blogfest, Huntress!
DeleteIt may not be potty trained, but it's got all the allure of a baby too. I mean, who can ignore a cutie pie in a stroller?
ReplyDeleteWell there is the poopie diaper, the yuck on the front of the shirt, and who can forget the 2 am feedings?
DeleteThis excerpt did an awesome job. I'm certainly excited and want to know more :-)
ReplyDeleteI do too. Sincerely I don't know how it's going to end.
DeleteThat was really good. Love when you can see the character's even in this small excerpt, nice job.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you, thank you. That really helps!
DeleteI like that I'm interested in knowing more, which means that it's a good excerpt (even if it isn't potty trained yet).
ReplyDeleteSometimes it won't articulate what it wants either. Cooky? Water? Milk? Whaat?
DeleteMysterious yet funny. A hard thing to pull off. I liked it. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the interest. Always a good thing no matter where a writer is in their career.
DeleteI want more! That was really great and I could feel the thrill and I was left wanting more. Great job. Now I want to see magic!
ReplyDeleteThrilling and magical!
ReplyDeleteI was captured by the reference to colour... I'm intrigued...
Great analogy of carriage and not yet potty trained. Good luck developing your story.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the cheeky humor. :) Fun excerpt. Share more!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the dialogue a lot!
ReplyDeletei like this scene! discovery and playfulness! thrill of new knowledge and having a unique talent!
ReplyDeletei cant wait to read the finished product!!
I like Bert's humor already!
ReplyDeleteNice THRILL!
Thanks for participating.
Heather
